This one-movement work has two opposing elements, it's like a battle between tonality and atonality. This has been a question that I have been asking for many years, tonality or atonality. (Atonality here is depicted by the use of the whole-tone scale, rather that the obvious 12 note series).
Is my music modern enough? It has been criticized for being 'music from a long gone age'.
However, for me tonality will now always win, but a little modernism can also produce some tension within a piece, as I believe it does here!
